Sometimes, it starts across a chessboard.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, AKPA International hosted <strong>Chess4Climate<\/strong> in <strong>Nsambya Katwe<\/strong>, one of Kampala&#8217;s vibrant informal settlements. The initiative brought together children and young people for a day that combined the strategy of chess with meaningful conversations about climate change, resilience, and community action.<\/p>\n<p>For many participants, it was their first opportunity to explore how everyday choices connect to the health of the environment. Through interactive chess games, discussions, and climate awareness sessions, young people discovered that the same skills needed to succeed in chess\u2014critical thinking, patience, planning, and adaptability\u2014are also essential in responding to the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The event was about more than learning the rules of a game. It was about inspiring young people to see themselves as problem-solvers and future leaders capable of creating positive change within their communities.<\/p>\n<p>Hosting Chess4Climate in Nsambya Katwe reflected AKPA&#8217;s commitment to ensuring that climate education reaches communities that are often overlooked. We believe every child, regardless of where they live, deserves the opportunity to understand climate change and contribute to building a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>The day was filled with laughter, learning, friendly competition, and new friendships. Most importantly, it demonstrated that climate action can be engaging, inclusive, and accessible to everyone.<\/p>\n<p>At AKPA International, we believe that meaningful climate action begins with informed communities.
